🔋 Battery Compatibility

Will this charger work with my specific battery type? (AGM, Gel, Lithium-ion, or conventional flooded lead-acid)

For all 12V power sport battery types including lead-acid (Pb) > STD (with filler caps), AGM & GEL (sealed VRLA) ) and Li-Ion made with LiFePO4 / LFP technology.

Can I use a standard car battery charger on a motorcycle?

Usually not recommended, as car chargers often deliver too much amperage (current) for a small powersports battery. However the answer is not quite as straight forward as you might think as some automotive chargers advertised for car use may be ok to use on your bike or jet ski. If in doubt we suggest purchasing one of our OptiMate chargers or contact us with your questions.

Does it support both 6V and 12V motorcycle batteries?

We do not have any 6V OptiMate chargers available in Australia.

What is the maximum battery capacity (Ah) this device can charge?

We recommend OptiMate 4 Quad program for use with any sized battery commonly used in a powersports vehicles such as motorcycles, jet skis, quads, side by sides etc. Generally 5-20Ah as a guide. Larger batteries can be charged but will take longer. We would recommend OptiMate 6 for larger lead acid batteries as used in cars for example.

⚡ Charging & Maintenance

Is this a smart charger or a trickle charger?

OptiMate chargers are all smart chargers. Generally, trickle charger would be the term used for a basic low current transformer based charger that does not cut off or monitor the battery condition.

Can I leave the charger connected all winter without overcharging the battery?

OptiMate chargers can be left connected 24/7 to safely maintain your battery for long periods. It will not overcharge.

Does it have a float mode or maintenance mode?

OptiMate chargers will enter maintenance mode once charging has completed. Maintenance mode features are slightly different depending on which OptiMate charger you have.

Can this charger restore or desulfate a dead motorcycle battery?

Absolutely! OptiMate 4 has a desulphate mode which automatically engages when used with lead acid batteries. For Lithium Ion batteries OptiMate 4 has BMS reset and a low volt start mode to safely recover otherwise "dead" lithium Ion batteries.

How long will it take to fully charge a completely drained battery?

OptiMate 4 Quad program charges at 1.2A maximum. If your battery is dead flat and does not require recovery or desulphation, a 6Ah battery will take about 5.5 hours to become fully charged. Roughly 1 hour per Ah of battery capacity.

Does it have reverse polarity protection if I connect the clamps wrong?

YES

Is the charger spark-proof when connecting to the terminals?

YES

Does it feature automatic shut-off when the battery reaches 100%?

OptiMate chargers automatically switch to maintenance mode when the battery is fully charged.

Is the device waterproof or weather-resistant for use in a damp garage?

OptiMate 4 Quad program is Weatherproof. Rated for use down to -40°C / -40°F.
