are specifically designed for charging, maintenance AND recovery of LiFePO4 Lithium Ion starter batteries. Many motorcycles have these batteries fitted as standard, such as some Ducati, Triumph and BMW models. Also, many people choose to upgrade to a Lithium Ion battery when their original Lead Acid battery fails.
OptiMate 1 Duo and OptiMate 2 Duo chargers are 100% automatic and suitable for Lithium and Lead Acid batteries - they will choose the correct charge program based on the type of battery they are connected to.
ONLY OptiMate 4 Quad program and OptiMate Pro 1 Duo requires a physical mode selection via the front mounted button.
Lithium Ion (LFP, LiFePO4) batteries do require maintenance, despite what you may have read.
They do not enjoy small current drains which many vehicles have even when switched off. Onboard systems for modern vehicles are continually drawing power from your battery.
If your Lithium battery has BMS (Battery management System) it will require resetting to allow it to receive charge voltage and current from your charger or bike. The OptiMate Lithium range of battery chargers feature a BMS reset, which allows your battery to recharged and recovered from as low as 0.5V!
OptiMate Lithium operates according to a fully automatic microprocessor-controlled algorithm.
Once the battery is fully charged, voltage decreases to maintenance level. If any electronic accessories of the motorcycle should make battery voltage decrease below optimum charge, the equipment will automatically switch back to charging mode in order to restore proper voltage level.
Yes, motorcycle Lithium batteries are designed to work at the maximum 14.4V charging voltage of any motorcycle. All motorcycle batteries are made from Lithium Ferrous Phosphate technology.
Is the charger easy to use?
Yes. The "Duo" chargers will automatically choose the correct charge program for your battery.
- OptiMate 4 Quad program requires user input to select the charge mode and battery type. Everything else is 100% automatic.
My battery is marked 13.2V, can it work in a 12V vehicle system?
Lithium Ferrous Phosphate cells are scientifically rated at 3.2V nominal. Nominal means the ‘design’ voltage of the cell. A 4-cell-in-series (4s) battery is 3.2V x 4 = 12.8V. How-ever some battery companies prefer to use 3.3V x 4 = 13.2V to show the optimal charge level of the battery; 13.2V is the ±70% State-Of-Charge level.
Does Li-Ion and LiFe and LiFePO4 have the same meaning?
a) Li-Ion is a generic term for Lithium battery technology. It only identifies the Lithium (Li) part of the chemistry and then how energy is moved inside the battery (Ions move from anode to cathode and vice versa).b) In motorcycle batteries only Lithium Ferrous Phosphate technology is used, that is shortened to LFP or LiFe (typically seen on Harley Davidson Lithium Ferrous Phosphate batteries)
Are the battery connection cables included in the box?
Yes, all OptiMate chargers include a lead cable for permanent connection and a crocodile clips cable for bench or emergency charging.
Why is my Honda battery marked Li-Ion 12V and not LFP / LiFePO4 12.8V?
The manufacturer (Eliiy) of lithium batteries found in Honda motorcycles prefer to use the basic Lithium description of Li-Ion and the voltage that signifies their battery is for a 12V vehicle system. The cells are made from Lithium Ferrous Phosphate, it is a 4-cell-in-series LFP battery that charges up to 3.6V x 4 = 14.4V.
Will OptiMate’s Lithium Battery Chargers work with my motorcycle lithium battery?
OptiMate Lithium LFP 4s battery chargers will work with all motorcycle or automotive lithium batteries that are marked Li-Ion 12V, LFP 12.8V, LFP 13.2V, LiFePO4 12.8V and LiFePO4 13.2V.
My lithium battery BMS is in sleep mode. Can I still use the OptiMate?
If using OptiMate Lithium TM-478, TM-298, or OptiMate 4 Quad program TM-638 - these models have BMS reset function. They will wake the battery with integrated BMS protection out of sleep mode.

Steve is always extremely helpful if you ever have any questions or concerns, and TEXA really is the best diagnostic system out there.
Great product. Easy to understand and use. I have it hooked up to my bike, which has a lithium battery and it’s working like a charm.
